Relocating to STL (update)

My fiance and I are in good shape to relocate to St. Louis right after our wedding in January. We're shooting for Mid-Feb.

Fortunately, we're not moving blindly into the area, my fiance lived here up until a few years ago and we will have a place to live whenever we are ready to move in Feb (family taking us in, but we will be ready to put a down payment on a house)

Of course, we would like at least one of us to have a job prior to making the move so we are both wondering if it will be a tough task, trying to find something while we're living in Orlando. We are guessing we would start looking in November since the hiring process can be a little lengthy but we're just concerned that our resumes/portfolios/etc. will be thrown in the trash when viewed next to local applicants who are much more convenient to hire. We of course are really excited to be moving up and think that it's great to be actually relocating TO STL rather than from - hopefully other people see that too..

Anyway, do any of you have any advice for relocating/getting a job prior? We'll be up in July again in August, and again for all of the major holidays so we're thinking we might try to stop by some places we're interested in.

About us:
He has a business degree from DePaul (Chicago) and Bachelor in Film/Audio from Full Sail - somewhat fresh out of school but will have a great portfolio of editing/sound mixing/camera work. I have a bachelor in graphic design and about 4 yrs experience.. I'm primarily a print designer but have worked a little in interactive.

We both love the city and the people in it and can't wait to get up there. Any advice is appreciated!
