St. Louis Public Library Grand Reopening Video – @TOKYbd & @OnceFilms

By lauradud84 / / December 9, 2012, marked the grand reopening of the magnificent Central Library in downtown St. Louis, an exciting moment in the St. Louis Public Library Foundation‘s $70 million Central To Your World Campaign. This video, screened for the first time at the Foundation’s Central to Your World Gala in November, celebrates the moment. Produced in association with Once Films concept and creative direction by TOKY. Nice and (intentionally) quite epic long-form piece on the $70 Million renovation the Central Library recently underwent in time for it’s centennial. Good job to Toky & Once for being able to capture the meaning behind such a large renovation on a library that will hopefully see people returning in droves. Good job to the appropriate parties for having the renovation come in on time and under budget. This is a pretty amazing piece of history and contemporary functionality that all of St. Louis can get behind and support. Greg Kiger from Once Films says: We gravitated toward big conceptual themes: why libraries still matter, how they support upward mobility and even democracy itself. Along the way we also highlighted specific client requested features and benefits.Challenges included a space that was under construction through out the filming process with limited access. The long list of interviews, all shot on location and a tight timeline made things interesting. In the end it all came together right on schedule just in time for the big opening night gala, which from all reports was a smashing success. The film will now live online on the Library’s website as well being used for fundraising purposes.

Kudos to Toky and Once on a really smart, beautifully shot video. Love the optimistic tone and elegant approach. And how the piece stays true to what makes the Library so unique. Good stuff.
