Old Spice is Going the Way of Skittles

/ Comments (5)

This trend of trying to out-wacky the next guy has been rampant in candy advertising for the last couple years. Look out, deodorant category, it's now come to you.

BTW, we think these spots are incredibly entertaining and pretty damn hilarious, but still have no idea how they sell actual deodorant. Anybody out there switched to Old Spice after seeing their ads?

Where has the Egotist been for the past few years? These spots are fantastic, but the absurdist humor is hardly uncharted territory for them.

If anything, this affirms my love for old spice.

@st-louis-egotist that headline may be more coincidental that you realize.

The same AD/CW team responsible for some of the memorable skittles work ("touch," "pinata," "beard," etc) is part of the same team that created "the man that your man could smell like" and a few other campaigns for old spice.

@Matt Collins, you also forgot to add that it was your friend and former Saint Louis creative who started all of this for Old Spice several years ago. Eric has done some amazing things.

@bbor62 I agree. Eric does great work. And he was the CD on Old Spice before and during "the man your man could smell like" campaign and all the responses piece of that campaign. But I was specifically pointing out that the AD/CW team that also worked on that campaign had previously worked on Skittles at a different agency.
