Colored Pencil Art Installation @2eCreative - Simon Lam

We believe this might be our first agency art installation that we've ever received in our time here. And, after looking thru the submission and seeing a simple yet creative idea executed by a local designer, we hope it's not the last. This sort of self-motivated, artistic creation is something that should motivate all of us to stretch out of our comfort zone (which most likely involves anything digital) and to actually do something with our own damn hands.

Thank you Simon for remembering that graphic designers are, at the core, multidisciplinary artists.

Simon Lam

I started this project by selecting an area where the piece will be displayed and I ended up choosing the hallway that connects the creative wing with the production room. Then, when I started to think of materials, I liked the idea of bringing back a somewhat forgotten and basic tool like colored pencils and juxtapose them against all the technology around that area — computers on one side and printers on the other.

The spacial connection along with the flow of that space inspired me to designed a piece that serves like a visual representation of the said flow. People are encourage to use the colored pencils and, if wanted, reposition them at will. With time, color combination will start to shift, and depending on the usage frequency, the length of each pencil will start to evolve as well, making the piece a ever-changing installation.

Thanks to Jason Dakis for creating the beautiful wood base and for drilling 2040 holes!

We LOVE this guy and his unique perspective on every project. Isn't this the coolest thing ever? Nice work Simon (even though I could just tell you that directly since you sit right next to me).

This is awesome. Great job Simon!

I <3 Simon!

Thank you Egotist for the wonderful post and thanks everyone for your kind comments! :)

That is absolutely beautiful.

really cool idea, Simon. way to go.

Just like a creative mental ward, but there are plenty of ready pencils of all colors, and your allowed to have pencil sharpeners.

I like creative art of an individuals character for their own studios!
Very cool. Reminds me of the pushpin pointalist framed art In the ogilvy office the ego just posted.

Very cool Simon. I look forward to seeing it in person.
