Get Ready to Grab Some Buds
As we reported last week, AB recruited firm Anomaly to help out in the massive Budweiser push to the younger beer guzzler demographic. While we had doubts about said firm's website (who have plastered some beer bottles on the home page recently), we have no doubts about the new spot they produced:
It only takes a few seconds to grasp the exact theme being portrayed here; the random clips of people getting ready for the evening in a couple of highly idealistic yet relatable cross-sections of the young beer guzzler's weekend plans (except for the supermodel shedding clothes and meeting us at a pub). The music production & sound effects work well with the feelings of anticipation for the baseball game/rock concert/one night stand/pool party and some fast paced editing to boot. And just like that, we're royally thirsty for a budheavy.
This is a pretty successful spot in our books. Well done, well communicated, St. Louis is pictured in at least one shot (and maybe more, some of those locales look familiar...), and it makes us want to drink. Your thoughts? Cannoball's thoughts? We know you have some...

Yay. Baseball season is here.... O wait. it's almost October?
Why is this on the air now?
The spot is awesome, you are right about that. It is artfully shot, edited, and produced. The anticipation it builds ties really strongly to the feeling people get when they are ready and excited to party.
It's refreshing to see a Budweiser ad that doesn't pander to the lowest common denominator for once.
This is a great spot, until the end, the slogan is terrible. "Grab some Buds" The plethora of jokes aside, it sounds cheesy and divorces the beer/brand from its history.
The largest problem ABInbev has is the PR hit it took, by taking away the largest American beer company away from American ownership. They need to re-brand all of their beer as the classic American lager, despite who owns the stock.
@Anonymous - probably because when this was in production the Cardinals looked like they would actually be playing in October.

@Chris Meeks - Totes agree on the LCD.
@Gregg Christian - Divorces the brand? Possibly, but that's probably the intent with sales so sluggish. No, it's not an amazing slogan... but we can't think of anything better at the moment. Also, we're pretty sure they have been rebranding it as the "great" american lager quite recently:
Maybe 'BUDS' is to tie in with Band of Buds? http://www.bandofbuds.com/
Great spot. Nice build & anticipation. No talking animals or dudes getting hit in the crotch... refreshing. A demographic kill shot, hormones & beer thirst are both riled up by the end.
The most sophisticated spot in years, both in production values and in tone. Hope it's not too late for this once-great brand.
