• St. Louis Ranks 13th in Creative Cities Vitality Index

    / Comments (1)

We may not be tech-friendly, but dammit are we creative! Another study released recently positions St. Louis as 13th on an index of creative vitality. Again - we're not sure how fleshed out the methodology is for supporting this finding but for those who are actively involved in the cultural environment within the city - we know it's a pretty accurate ranking; or at least, accurate that we're in the study.

From the Creative Cities website (which is ironically lacking in anything remotely related to creativity):
The Vitality Index™ is produced using a mixed methodological approach which combines key informant insights with survey data. It begins with quantitative factors including trends, costs, services, and measures of creative infrastructure which result in a ranking. From there, the assessment is further refined and made specific to each city, community or project through responses to questionnaires from the relevant local agencies and surveys of residents. Currently, 35 U.S. cities are included in the first Vitality Index™ ranking.

On the flipside, we love anything that ranks us creatively higher than Portland and Denver. Kansas City goes without saying. Just kidding, we love you, you state-shared sibling city you.

According to Ross Toohey, Principal at 2e, "The philosophy behind the site is the red/blue - leftbrain/rightbrain thing that is 2e; building upon the dualistic properties inherent in their name & branding. Or something like that.

This is the Phase 1 Launch of the site - supposedly there will be some more updates and new work coming soon. Good to see another St. Louis agency revamping their site & work. Seen any others lately?

  • St. Louis Gets D- in Tech Friendly List

    / Comments (1)

Men's Health recently ran a study to determine what cities were the most tech friendly in the U.S. And while you might ask what business Men's Health has in running tech acceptance tests, here's a look at their method:

Alas, there's no iPad app that could tell us who's using tablets where. So we went with the next best thing: tablet use based on ad impressions, courtesy of ad network Chitika. We filled out our criteria with the number of Apple and Best Buy stores per capita, along with the percentage of households that own tablets, notebooks, or laptops.

Still seems like it could use a few more variables in our opinion. Nonetheless, here's where we ranked:

    81. Billings, MT D-
    82. Jackson, MS D-
    83. Bridgeport, CT D-
    84. St. Louis, MO D-
    85. Newark, NJ D
    86. Columbia, SC D-
    87. Cleveland, OH D-
    88. Providence, RI D-
    89. Philadelphia, PA D-
    90. Charleston, WV F

Apparently, Plano, TX is kicking our ass at number 1 with the only A+. Hmmm....
